Thankful Thursday - Who are you first?

Thankful Thursday - 10.29.15 Who are you first?

Greetings on this b-e-a-utiful Thursday! I hope this blog finds you doing well friends!

I have a question for you that I have been thinking about all week. If somebody asked you who you are, what would you say first?

Most people wear a ton of different hats. My social media profiles until last night described me like this...

Dreamer. Jesus follower. Husband to Amber. Friend. Pastor at Daybreak Church. Hope delivery guy!

It took me a long time to word it like that and honestly, I was pretty excited about that little description about who I am. But today I had to update it. Today my profiles read:

Son. Dreamer. Jesus follower. Husband to Amber. Friend. Pastor at Daybreak Church. Hope delivery guy!

Last Sunday at DBC I closed my message with a verse of scripture that has been wrecking me for 2 weeks now. In fact, this week I was preparing for next Sunday's message and I had to include it again.

“I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.”
- 2 Corinthians 6:18

These nineteen words say so much, it’s almost overwhelming! God, the one who created the heavens and the earth, the one that hung the stars in the sky, the creator of all things… He calls me son?!

Yes Sir, He calls you son.
Yes Ma'am, He calls you daughter.

You have probably been called a lot of things over the course of your life. Obviously you had parents, and some of you may now be parents. Some of you have siblings, and some have close friends. Maybe you are a boss, but most are employees. Those are all great hats to wear, but we have an even greater calling.

Maybe your story did not go according to plan. Maybe you mourn the loss of a child. Some of you grew up without a parent. Some of you lost a loved one or friend before you were expecting. Some of you were once a spouse, but the cards in your hand did not go your way.

We identify with so many different titles and because of that most of us struggle with knowing who we really are. The question is, do you know who you are first?

It's great to be a father or a brother. It's great to be a wife or a sister. It's great to be a boss or a dreamer, and it is great to be a teacher or construction worker.

But your greatest title...
Your greatest position...
The greatest hat that you will ever wear is, son or daughter of Almighty God.

And if you have not heard it today, as my dear friend Shannon Lewis says all of the time, and you need to know that...

You are loved, you are valued and God has an incredible destiny for you son.
You are loved, you are valued and God has an incredible destiny for you daughter.

Today I want to encourage you to try and let God update your personal profile. It's not just important to know who you are, but we need to know who's we are.

Sons and Daughters!

I am so thankful that God calls me son. It’s Thankful Thursday, and today I can say that I am so thankful that I have finally come to a place in my life where I have accepted who I am in Christ. A son. His son! I am so thankful that this week, He has been reminding me that my past, present and future circumstances do not define who I am.

Jesus already did!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Don't forget to share something that you are thankful for on this Thankful Thursday. Blessings! Be encouraged friends!
