Life is short, I want to live it well

When I was in school I made it into All-County Band. I played percussion. My favorite composition that we performed was a medley of songs from the score of the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus. On that particular song I played the timpani drums.

A timpani is a massive kettle drum that has a tunable foot peddle. I got to start the song off and throughout the song I had to change the keys that the drums were tuned to multiple times, by ear, on the fly. The time signatures also changed multiple times in the composition. It was a fun challenge.

Such is life sometimes. Just when we start to feel comfortable in a key, it modulates up or down. Just when we feel like we are finding a rhythm to this journey that we call life, the tempo or time signature completely changes.

An opus is a composition or set of compositions by a particular composer. I'm thankful that God still uses mixed up time signatures, constantly changing tempos and key changes to create beautiful melodies. I hope that when it is all said and done that the opus of my life is one that has brought hope to the hurting and joy to the heart of God. Life is short, I want to live it well.
